Hulpvragen hebben vaak te maken met ontevredenheid over de huidige situatie en in feite is men op zoek naar verandering. Maar, hoe stimuleer je verandering? En waar moet de focus van een traject op liggen?<\/p>\r\n<p>In deze blog leg ik het verschil uit tussen twee verschillende, prominente benaderingen die ingezet worden om voor persoonlijke groei te zorgen: de\u00a0<em>klachtgerichte benadering<\/em>\u00a0en de\u00a0<em>oplossingsgerichte benadering<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>De klachtgerichte benadering<\/h2>\r\n<p>Bij een klachtgerichte benadering staat de\u00a0<strong>klacht<\/strong>\u00a0centraal: alles wat \u201congewenst\u201d is en persoonlijke ontwikkeling belemmert wordt onder de loep genomen. Er wordt in kaart gebracht wat het probleem is, wanneer het is ontstaan en welke diagnose of classificatie passend is bij de klacht die jij ervaart. Aan de hand van de diagnose volgt een traject waarvan uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek is gebleken dat deze werkt voor mensen met soortgelijke klachten. Uit talloze onderzoeken is bijvoorbeeld gebleken dat cognitieve gedragstherapie \u2013 een prominente klachtgerichte therapie \u2013 ontzettend effectief kan zijn voor mensen met angst- en stemmingsklachten (Tolin, 2010).<\/p>\r\n<p>Het gevaar van deze benadering k\u00e1n zijn dat de aandacht van het traject \u2013 en daarmee ook de aandacht van de klant \u2013 te veel gericht is op wat\u00a0<strong>niet lukt<\/strong>. Wat\u00a0<strong>niet<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>kan<\/strong>. Wat\u00a0<strong>niet<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>gaat<\/strong>. De gesprekken hebben een negatieve lading en bieden in dat geval weinig stimulans en vertrouwen om bezig te gaan met oplossingen. Dat geldt met name bij langdurige trajecten, waarbij keer op keer de beperkingen die men ervaart aan bod komt. Het is de kunst om bij een klachtgericht traject aandacht te blijven houden voor het uiteindelijke doel van de klant.<\/p>\r\n<h2>De oplossingsgerichte benadering<\/h2>\r\n<p>In de jaren tachtig is een oplossingsgerichte benadering ontwikkeld door Steve de Shazer en Insoo Kim Berg, waarbij de nadruk juist ligt op de\u00a0<strong>kracht\u00a0<\/strong>van een persoon. Filosoof Aristoteles zei ooit: \u201cAlles wat je aandacht geeft, groeit\u201d. Bij een oplossingsgerichte werkwijze ligt de aandacht dan ook op datgene\u00a0<strong>wat al goed gaat<\/strong>\u00a0en hoe je verder kan bouwen op je eigen vaardigheden en expertise om belangrijke doelen te bereiken. De trajecten zijn vaak kort en doelgericht en er is minder ruimte om op zoek te gaan naar de totstandkoming en instandhouding van de klachten.<\/p>\r\n<p>Ook hierbij valt een kanttekening te plaatsen: hoewel het goed is om resultaatgericht te werken en een doel voor ogen te houden, kan het ook zijn dat er onvoldoende progressie wordt geboekt omd\u00e1t er juist weinig aandacht wordt besteed aan de totstandkoming en instandhouding van de klachten. Denk- en gedragspatronen kunnen immers erg hardnekkig zijn. Hierbij is de kunst om de voortgang van de klant goed te blijven monitoren en vroegtijdig te herkennen wanneer deze stagneert. En natuurlijk: er samen achter komen waarom het stagneert!<\/p>\r\n<h2>Hoe werk ik bij Curev Coaching?<\/h2>\r\n<p>Tijdens en na de opleiding tot psycholoog heb ik in eerste instantie vanuit een klachtgerichte benadering gewerkt. Diagnostiek en geprotocolleerd werken is binnen de geestelijke gezondheidszorg veelal de norm. In de loop der jaren heb ik als behandelaar en coach meer ervaring opgedaan met kortdurend en oplossingsgericht werken en merkte ik dat je ook met korte trajecten enorme progressie kan boeken met de klant. Zeker als je de juiste vragen weet te stellen. Er hoeft immers niet altijd in het verleden \u201cgegraven\u201d te worden om naar de toekomst toe te werken. Vandaag de dag werk ik dan ook voornamelijk kortdurend en oplossingsgericht, tenzij ik tijdens het traject redenen zie om uitgebreider stil te staan bij de klacht en de standhoudende factoren.
